One of the best practices that I do being a call center agent is asking my customers, “How are you today?”. I do that everyday and to almost all of my calls to build rapport with my customers. Lately, most of them just tell me they’re all doing just fine. But for my 6 years of being in the call center industry, it is during the winter season in the United States that my customer would tell me how bad the weather is. They would complain about how cold it is in where they are at.
Most of the time, I’d just say, “I’m sorry to hear about that.” But when my customer wants to know how the weather is at my location, I’d tell them the weather temp is normally 20-36 degrees Celsius here in Manila. And that I didn’t experience having snow right here in the Philippines so I can’t imagine the coldness that he’s going through right now. And then we’ll laugh about it and go on with what my customer was really calling about.
Whenever I hear people from the U.S. complain about being cold especially during the winter, at the back of my mind, I would thank God for not letting me born and live in that part of the world. I wouldn’t bare the cold, definitely. Even if I’m in a home where there is a fireplace tv stand. I won’t live just in front of the TV. Forget about my dream of building a snowman. That’s a childhood dream, anyway.
Thank God I live in a tropical country, Philippines. Even though the economy sucks, the hot and rainy weathers are good enough for me.
