On September 3, President Aquino took over control of the Philippine National Police (PNP) after senior police officials admitted serious lapses were committed in the hostage crisis in Manila that left eight Hong Kong tourists dead.
“I will retain for the interim control over the PNP,” he said. “I will retain direct supervision of the PNP until such time that all other concerns have been addressed.”

Sounds terrific, Mr. President. Hope it does not take your entire first term in Office to address “all other concerns”. It could also serve for a convincing second term in Office if you can’t get it all done in time.
Incidentally, Mr. President, international and public confidence is not reliant solely on an individual but rather on the premise that there is a system that is clean, effective and empowers responsibility to the right candidate.
