I believe it was last week when my cousin Allena informed me that her SIL is leaving for the Middle East to work as a Nurse. Good thing her country of choice was not included in the ban for hiring nurses.
A lot of Filipinos like my cousin’s wife are leaving the country not because they want to. It’s just that they were left with no options. There are actually an overflowing number of registered nurses in the country but the jobs are too scarce. I was in shock when I learned from my last confinement in the hospital last year that the basic monthly salary of RNs are ranging from 4,000 to 10,000 in Philippine peso! They certainly are underpaid. I can’t imagine these professionals in their nurses uniform getting the lowest wage. They do deserve so much more than that!
Oh well! I can’t blame those who chose to leave their motherland. So much and better opportunities are waiting for them beyond the shores of beloved Philippines.
